December is finally here and soon it will be 2020. How are you feeling?
Well, at this time of the year, I am pretty pumped up.
And why not? After all, soon we all be celebrating Christmas.
Even when the festive mode is on, you need to think clearly.
The first thing that I want you to do is to grab a piece of paper and a pen. I will walk with you for carrying out this little exercise which will prepare you to have an awesome 2020.
1. Time to Reflect
Last year, in this month, were you jotting down your goals for 2019?
If yes, I wonder, did you achieve them?
You will have a better idea about it.
For now, why don’t you jot down the goals that you had in your mind for 2019? Once you have the list ready, check how many of these goals were you able to achieve?
Congratulate yourself on all the goals that you managed to achieve. Give yourself an extra pat for the sudden opportunities that you created while walking down the line.
Now, it’s time to have a look at the goals which went down the drain.
What happened? What was the reason behind the failure? Think for a while and come up with proper reasons.
Are you now ready with an explanation?
Now think deeply if the reason was big enough that it made it impossible for you to achieve that goal.
If it is a genuine reason, stop thinking. You couldn’t have done anything about it. However, if you think that you are just making any stupid excuse, it’s time for you to introspect. What was the real reason that made you drop the goal about which you were so excited?
Were you lazy? Did you waster your time? It can be anything! Identify it and note it down. And ensure that you work on it. After all, life is all about learning from your mistakes and growing.
2. Grab a Planner For 2020
It’s time for you to plan your goals for 2020.
Before you hurridly list down all your goals, stop! What’s the hurry? Let us make this process beautiful.
For the next few minutes, close your eyes and visualize the year ahead of you. You need to vividly visualize everything to extract the full potential of this exercise.
- What are you wearing?
- Where are you?
- What are you doing?
- Are you happy?
- Who are the people near you?
- What are you celebrating?
- How does your body look?
- Do you look tensed or relaxed?
- Close your eyes now and start visualising.
Are you done?
It’s time for you to ask yourself what are things that you need to do to achieve the dream life that you have just visualised? Once you have the list of tasks ready, club the similar tasks under one broad category. This will help you to identify your major goals for 2020.
Congrats! Now your goals along with a proper action plan are ready.
3. Don’t Wait for 1st January 2020
The beauty of tomorrow is that it never comes. So, why wait for it?
Why wait for the New Year to work on your goals?
You need to start from today itself. You cannot change yourself overnight. Changing yourself is a gradual process. So, start working on yourself from now.
Give yourself a bad start. Try to stick to your action plans from today itself. This will help you to prepare yourself to stick to the action plans in a much better way later.
Ditch the Drama
For many people, New Year Resolutions are such a big deal. Sometimes, these overwhelming feelings stop you from achieving these very resolutions.
- You are excited about your goals.
- Sure, you are afraid of failing.
- You want to celebrate your wins.
- Sure, you want to enjoy it with your friends.
Everything is accepted but for a second, calm down!
We are just laying the groundwork! Now is not the time to experience this whole bucket of achievements.
For now, ditch the drama and treat New Year as just another day in your life.
Simply focus on sticking to the action plan. That’s it!
